Look, we all breathe. All the time. But doing it right… that's a different story. From the time we're kids, no one teaches us how to breathe. breathe correctly, and that takes its toll on us later on: we get more tired, we get stressed more quickly, and yes… we don't last long underwater.

Let me tell you something very personal. I was never a particularly skilled person in the water. In fact, I always felt somewhat clumsy when swimming. Every time I tried to hold my breath, I barely passed 20 seconds And I already felt a pressure in my chest, a kind of internal alarm telling me to immediately come up for air. It was frustrating. I literally felt like a fish out of water... but actually in it!
All that changed the day that, while on vacation with friends, I saw one of them calmly dive into the pool and stay there… motionless… serene… and for more than two full minutesI was staring at him from above the water, eyes wide open, thinking, "Does this guy have gills or something?" He didn't seem to be making any effort. He wasn't kicking, he wasn't thrashing. He was just there, as if the water was his natural element.
When he came out, I immediately asked him what his trick was. And his answer was as simple as it was revealing:
“I just learned to breathe properly.”
That got me thinking. How could something as basic as breathing make such a difference? That's when I decided I had to try. I started doing my own research, watching videos, reading articles, downloading apps, and even practicing simple breathing exercises in my room, without having to be in the water.
I tried different techniques, I adjusted my routine little by little and, most importantly: I started taking seriously the habit of breathing correctly every day. I didn't need special equipment, a personal trainer, or even leaving the house. I just needed desire, perseverance, and a phone with a couple of apps.
The results started to show sooner than I imagined. In less than a week, I had already gone from 20 to 40 seconds. In two weeks, I was already around a minute. And, to my surprise, by the end of the first month, I could already hold my breath for more than a minute and a half without feeling that desperation that previously invaded me.
After three months, after following a simple routine with discipline and repeating it every day, I managed to stay underwater for more than two full minutesAnd the best part is that I did it without having to hyperventilate, without feeling dizzy, and above all, fearless.
